FAQ

What are the scenarios for escape and what are the escape methods?

I. There are three types of scenarios for escape: (1) while escaping, (2) while waiting indoors for rescue, (3) when rescue is not expected.
II. The methods are:
(1) While Escaping:
1. Do not take the elevator.
2. Follow the evacuation sign to the fire escape.
3. Use a wet towel or handkerchief to cover your mouth, and crawl when there is thick smoke, as there is still 30cm of air from the ground level in time of fire. You may wear a transparent plastic bag when escaping in thick smoke (the plastic bag to be about 100 cm long and 60 cm wide).
4. Escape by moving along the surface of the wall, so as not to miss the emergency exit.
5. If you encounter thick smoke while escaping, do not force your way through. Retreat to a relatively safer area, close the door, seal the door seam with clothing and wait for rescue.
6. During the escape, do not worry about your clothing or home belongings, but hurry to escape. The last person to leave the premises should close the main door to prevent the fire from spreading.
(2) While waiting indoors for rescue:
1. Use the fire escape equipment to escape.
2. Seal the door seam with masking tapes, wet towel, bed sheet, clothing, etc., to prevent smoke from coming in.
3. Use the land line or mobile phone to call 119 to inform the fire brigade of your waiting location.
4. Go to a place where it is easier to be rescued, such as the rooftop, balcony or by the window, and wait there.
5. Avoid breathing in thick smoke.
(3) When rescue is not expected:
1. Use a bedsheet or curtains as ropes to escape.
2. Escape by following the water pipes outside the building.
3. Never jump from the building.
