Earthquakes have caused serious casualties in our history, however, we can minimize the damage if we are prepared. Taipei City Government is going to hold the earthquake drill on 25 March, along with New Taipei City, Keelung City and Taoyuan City. The participants will include central government agencies, corporates, and civil organizations.

The drill will simulate a quake that strikes with Richter magnitude of 6.9 and seismic scale (MMS) of 7.0 in Taipei City. And we planned to conduct it with multiple disaster scenarios. This drill will be the biggest disaster drill in our history in terms of area coverage.

1. Earthquake Evacuation Drill:

Starts at 10:00 am on Mar 25, with all the government agencies, corporates, schools and organizations in the 4 cities. Mayor Wen-je Ko will be observing at the Taipei 101 building, the drill will be live at http://www.eoc.gov.taipei

2. Temporary Shelter Trial Run:

After the earthquake, some citizens, especially those who are not residents of the city, will need a shelter to stay and rest. We will use Daan Forest Park as a temporary shelter. There will be stands for citizens to learn about disaster prevention and preparedness.

3. Hospital to Simulate Taking Massive Patients:

Tri-Service General Hospital will simulate the response for receiving massive patients from disasters, the event will start at 21:30 pm on March 25.

4. Multiple Disaster Drill in Taipei Station:

Starts at 00:45 am on March26, The drill will involve Taiwan High Speed Rail, the train system, and MRT systems of Taipei and Taoyuan. We will simulate scenarios including derailments, fires, explosions and chemical disasters that are caused by the earthquake. We will go through the complete set of evacuation and rescue mission by our response mechanism and integrate the resources of the four cities and the central government.
