Taipei City invited Tokyo Japan, Australia, and Malaysia international rescue teams to attend International Workshop for Search and Rescue

Taipei City Fire Department had held International Workshop for Search and Rescue at Regent Taipei Hotel Ball Room A from 9 to 12 a.m. on March 5th, 2019. In the event the fire department invited Tokyo Japan, Australia, and Malaysia international rescue teams, which had been officially authenticated by International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG), to exchange their rescue experiences with National Fire Agency, Ministry of the Interior, New Taipei City and Taipei City counterparts.

Taiwan is located in Western Pacific Typhoon Zone and Circum-Pacific earthquake zone. It suffers from numerous typhoon attacks, heavy rain and high likelihood of earthquake occurrence, which makes it a highly sensitive region subject to international natural disasters. Given especially that Taipei City possesses skyscrapers standing in a huge number and a large population, it would be much harder to rescue when it came to abnormal climate changes, disaster frequency and scale increase. Hence, the fire department devoted to enhancing equipment and firefighter ability. And this time it invited Japan, Australia and Malaysia rescue team representatives to share and exchange knowledge and real cases. These teams possess abundant international rescue experiences and emergency responses. It is very beneficial for enhancing local rescue competencies.

''Only with sufficient preparation can we provide the timely assistance.” In order to reinforce international rescue mechanisms, intercity cooperation and establish United-Nations-certified rescue team, besides this workshop, Taipei City Fire Department also invited these rescue teams to participate in 2019 Taipei City Large-scale Disaster Exercise with local teams at Nangang Station on March 7th, 2019. By the workshop and the disaster exercise, they mutually exchanged and learned from other precious rescue experiences.
