International Emergency Medical Service Conference 2018

Taipei City Fire Department, National fire agency (NFA), Ministry of the Interior and Taipei City Hospital Heping Fuyou Branch held the International Emergency Medical Service Conference in the auditorium belonging to the hospital on September 5th and 6th, 2018. Experts and scholars from Japan, Australia and South Korea were invited to give speeches sharing their experience in education and Emergency Medical Service faculty development.

Crew training and quality management are important cornerstones for the ongoing development of EMS. Taipei City Fire Department is the pioneer in establishing "Golden Phoenix EMS Team" 19 years ago, followed by the establishment of the Medical Advisory Committee and the Total Quality Management Team. It also devoted to saving lives from three major time-sensitive diseases (stroke, AMI and major trauma) to prevent people from significant morbidities and mortalities. The number of survivors of cardiac arrest with good neurological outcome has been over 100 each year since 2015. It sums up to 900 people in the last 20 years; therefore, their families are saved together.

The 2017 performance of Taipei City Fire Department was also approved by NFA. Taipei City Fire Department won 6 of the 7 Awards, including the "Birth Hand", "Life Catcher" and "First Aid". Additionally, Taipei City Fire Department also won the "Group Performance Award" among six competitive cities. On the other hand, the firefighters rescue their colleague suffering from AMI during a basketball game is also a touching and inspiriting story and awarded for “Special Group Performance” by NFA.

Based on the past experience and knowledge, this conference successfully networked with other countries to setup the blueprint of future training and teaching scheme for EMT education, allowing Taiwan central and local governments to march to the next milestone jointly!
