In addition to continuing disaster reduction measures such as "Fire-free tomb sweeping" and "Centralized burning of joss paper," the department has introduced drone-based high-altitude patrols and thermal monitoring mechanisms, which, combined with ground-level alerts and patrols, enhance early fire detection and real-time response efficiency in cemetery zones.

The fire department stated that drones are planned for high-altitude surveillance in this year, utilizing preset flight paths to expand the coverage area and employing multi-stage zoom lenses alongside thermal imaging technology to identify abnormal heat sources and smoke in real-time. This allows for the rapid determination of fire locations, fire scale, and potential spread directions, significantly shortening search times and effectively enhancing on-site response efficiency. At the same time, through cross-agency horizontal communication and information sharing, the department has integrated resources from the Department of Information and Tourism, Department of Environmental Protection, Police Department, Mortuary Services Office, Geotechnical Engineering Office to clear weeds and combustibles in cemetery areas ahead of time. These efforts, which include strengthened patrols and public outreach, form a "three-in-one" fire prevention strategy encompassing technological monitoring, ground-level surveillance, and environmental management, thereby comprehensively reinforcing safety and protection capabilities throughout the cemetery zones.

To minimize the risk of fire, the public is urged to adopt fire-free tomb-sweeping practices by manually clearing weeds and properly bagging them for disposal; additionally, joss paper should be handled through centralized incineration services, or replaced with alternatives such as "Donations instead of joss paper " or "Rice instead of joss paper," while avoiding firecrackers, the improper disposal of cigarette butts, and ensuring all trash is taken away to reduce the accumulation of combustibles. Any fire caused by the burning of joss paper or weeds that results in air pollution or casualties will be strictly investigated and penalized in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.

The fire department reminds citizens to make good use of digital disaster prevention tools by downloading the “Taipei City Disaster Prevention App” and the “The First Scene App” in advance to receive real-time push notifications regarding weather changes and disaster information; such technology enhances self-protection and immediate response capabilities, making it a vital partner in ensuring safety. We urge the public to balance the tradition of honoring ancestors with public safety and environmental protection, taking practical action to reduce fire risks and working together to maintain the safety of our city and the peace of our homes.
</Column_6><Column_7 name="Files">[]</Column_7><Column_8 name="Links">[]</Column_8><Column_9 name="Pictures">[]</Column_9><Column_10 name="Movies">[]</Column_10><Column_11 name="Publish Department">Taipei City Fire Department</Column_11></Data><Data><Column_0 name="DataSN">9542083</Column_0><Column_1 name="ArticleType">0</Column_1><Column_2 name="FileName"></Column_2><Column_3 name="Link"></Column_3><Column_4 name="Source">https://english.119.gov.taipei/News_Content.aspx?n=5A5095A76D29FF0B&s=984F06934DC5D3A2</Column_4><Column_5 name="title">Cherish 119 Resources: Protect Those in Urgent Need Together</Column_5><Column_6 name="Content">
As the year draws to a close and the new year begins, households are busy preparing for the festivities and welcoming the Year of the Horse. During these warm moments of family reunions, the Taipei City Fire Department’s 119 Emergency Dispatch Center remains on duty 24/7 to safeguard the city. The 119 emergency hotline is the first line of defense for citizen safety. To ensure that rescue resources are precisely utilized during critical moments, the public is urged to cherish 119 firefighting resources and leave them for those who need them most. Malicious harassment or false reports will be penalized according to the "Fire Services Act," with fines up to NT$50,000.

According to statistics, the Taipei City Fire Department received 342,965 calls in 2025, averaging approximately 940 calls per day. These included 4,831 fire incidents, 132,193 emergency medical services (EMS) cases, and 12,078 other types of cases. The 119 Emergency Dispatch Center handles a massive volume of reports daily; if individuals make prank calls or falsely report fires or disasters, it not only wastes precious resources but also potentially delays the rescue of those in life-threatening situations.

The Taipei City Fire Department emphasizes that, according to Article 36 of the Fire Services Act, anyone who makes a false report of a fire, explosion, disaster, or emergency rescue, or who calls the 119 hotline without cause and refuses to stop after being asked, shall be fined a maximum of NT$50,000. This is to ensure the effective operation of the emergency reporting system.

As the use of fire and electricity increases during the Lunar New Year, extra attention should be paid to home fire safety. In the event of an emergency, please remain calm when calling 119 and follow the dispatcher's guidance and questions. However, a single fire accident can take everything away. According to statistics from Taipei City Fire Department, between January and September this year (2025), electrical incidents were the leading cause of fires with 283 cases (37.3%), followed by cooking-related fires with 157 cases (20.7%). These numbers highlight that while electrical safety remains critical, residents must also stay vigilant about fire safety in the kitchen.

Most cooking fires occur because someone briefly leaves the kitchen, leading to dry-boil incidents or oil overheating that can quickly ignite. The Fire Department once again reminds the public: “Turn off the flame before you step away.” No matter how busy you are, never forget to switch off the stove when it’s unattended.

The Fire Department also recommends choosing stoves equipped with “flame failure safety devices” and “temperature sensing devices.” These technologies can automatically shut off the gas if the flame goes out or if the temperature rises abnormally, significantly reducing the risk of fire. Households with elderly members or children should be especially cautious with open flames to prevent accidents caused by simple negligence.

Five Essential Tips for Kitchen Fire Safety：

1. Never leave cooking unattended: Always stay in the kitchen while cooking — remember, “turn off the flame before you leave.”

2. Avoid overheating oil: Add cooking oil in appropriate amounts and control the heat to prevent oil ignition.

3. Prevent overflows: Do not overfill pots or pans to avoid spills that could extinguish flames.

4. Keep exhaust ducts clean: Clean range hoods regularly and use non-combustible materials with oil-resistant features.

5. Install heat detectors: Consider installing a fixed-temperature residential fire alarm in the kitchen to provide early warning in case of abnormal heat buildup.

Taipei City was once again ranked first overall in the “2024 County and City Competitiveness and Sustainability Survey” conducted by Global Views Monthly, marking its fourth time at the top. The visit took place on October 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM, with the aim of drawing upon the Fire Department's extensive experience in the planning, supervision, and management of pre-hospital Emergency Medical Services (EMS). A key focus was the utilization of digital technology to connect pre-hospital and post-hospital data.

The Fire Department noted that it has actively adopted digital technology in recent years to continuously enhance the quality and efficiency of its EMS operations.

• As early as 2016, the department pioneered the nationwide introduction of Electronic Patient Care Records (ePCR). This system digitally records complete patient data and treatment procedures, allowing for the immediate upload, analysis, and integration of EMS information.

• In 2024, the "Integrated Critical Care System" was established. This system connects crucial pre-hospital and post-hospital databases, covering critical areas such as pre-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), acute stroke, acute coronary syndrome (ACS), and severe trauma. The data analysis derived from this system serves as an important basis for EMS quality management. The Fire Department further highlighted that during the exchange, they shared details regarding the AI-Assisted Electrocardiogram (ECG) Interpretation System. This system was successfully implemented in July 2025 and is certified by the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) under the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

After EMS personnel upload the 12-lead ECG via the Integrated Critical Care System App, the system can determine whether the patient has acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in as fast as 25 seconds.Significantly, the positive predictive value (PPV) of this system has increased to 71.2%. Looking ahead, the Fire Department also plans to introduce handheld ultrasound devices. This equipment will facilitate the on-site determination of whether severe trauma patients have internal bleeding, thereby further strengthening pre-hospital medical decision-making.

The Fire Department emphasized its hope that this in-depth exchange will enable the Paraguayan Ministry of Health and Welfare officials to fully understand Taipei City's successful experience in the application of digital technology for EMS. This knowledge is intended to serve as an important reference for Paraguay as it formulates relevant policies and regulations.

Moving forward, the Fire Department remains committed to the spirit of innovation, utilizing the power of "smart connection" through technology to promote the development of smart healthcare. According to statistics from Taipei City Fire Department, a total of 1,137 fire incidents occurred from January to December last year (2024), with 417 of them (36.7%) were caused by electrical factors—making electrical fires the leading cause of all the reported fires. In a residential fire that occurred in Wenshan District, Taipei City this April, multiple extension cords were improperly connected in the bedroom, causing a short circuit that ignited nearby furniture and flammable materials. Although the fire was contained within the bedroom, the resident was injured while attempting to extinguish the flames. This incident highlights the risks of misusing extension cords and storing flammable materials nearby. The Fire Department urges the public to follow the "Five No’s and One Must" principle for electrical safety to ensure the safety of homes and workplaces, and to regularly check the electrical safety of appliances used in bedrooms and living rooms to reduce the risk of fire:

1. No Overloading: Avoid plugging multiple high-power appliances into a single extension cord to prevent overloading and fire hazards.

2. No Bundled Cords: Tangled or bundled wires can overheat and cause short circuits. Keep cords untangled and properly arranged.

3. No Flammable Materials Nearby: Keep space heaters, extension cords, and other electrical devices away from curtains, paper, and other flammable objects to reduce fire risks.

4. No Dirty or Damaged Plugs: Regularly inspect plugs and outlets. If you notice dust buildup, scorch marks, or discoloration, clean them immediately or replace damaged components.

5. No Unplugged Devices Left Idle: Unplug electrical appliances that are not in use, especially when leaving home for extended periods, to reduce standby power risks.

6. Thanks to their vigilance, a major disaster was averted. According to firefighters on the scene, the incident originated from a pot of chicken soup left simmering unattended. The resident had left the stove on and went out shopping, forgetting to turn off the burner. As the soup boiled dry, the pot overheated and began to produce heavy white smoke due to dry-burning. Fortunately, a home smoke alarm installed in the apartment was activated in time, alerting neighbors and preventing the situation from escalating into a full-blown fire.

The Fire Department pointed out that kitchen fires have become one of the main threats to home safety. According to statistics, of the 53 cases in which residential fire alarms were successfully activated in 113 years, 35 were caused by inadvertent cooking, accounting for more than 65% of the total. Further data show that most kitchen fires are caused by negligence, such as forgetting to turn off the stove or leaving it unattended for a long period of time.

The Fire Department appeals to the public to observe the basic principle of “keep away from the fire”, and always keep watch when cooking soups, fries or stews, etc., which take a long time to cook. If you need to leave for a short period of time, you should turn off the stove immediately. It is also recommended to choose a stove with flame failure safety device and temperature sensing function to minimize the risk. At the same time, avoid overfilling the pots with food and soup to prevent overflowing which may cause excessive smoke or flame extinguishing. The Fire Department further recommends installing fire service equipment such as smoke detectors or temperature sensors in residential premises and checking their functioning regularly. For the use of gas, it is important to ensure that the hoses comply with national standards and are replaced regularly to prevent deterioration or damage. Through the establishment of good cooking habits and the proper use of kitchen equipment, the chance of kitchen fires can be effectively reduced, and home safety can be maintained together.

Taipei City is the fourth time to be crowned the overall champion in Vision Magazine's “2024 County and City Aggregate and Sustainability Competitiveness Survey”, and also the first in the six cities in terms of “public safety and fire prevention”. Therefore, the Fire Department calls on the public to learn the correct concepts of disaster prevention, which will significantly reduce the risk of disasters and maintain a safe living environment! Several earthquakes have also recently been felt in Taiwan. The Fire Department stated that most injuries were caused by furniture overturning, falling objects, and sharp objects. During the shaking, people moving in panic without seeking shelter behind sturdy objects faced a higher risk of injury. Therefore, the Fire Department urges the public to immediately take the "drop, cover, and hold on" action during earthquakes, take cover under a table or next to an interior wall, and protect the head and neck with tables or sturdy objects to avoid injury from moving or falling objects. Additionally, after the earthquake has stopped, it is essential to promptly ensure the safety of surrounding family and friends and check if gas and fire sources at home are turned off to prevent fires and exacerbation of secondary disasters.

Additionally, the Fire Department would like to express its gratitude to Songshan Tsu Huei Temple in this event for their continuous support and generous donations for fire prevention and disaster safety in the city. Over the years, they have donated 38,200 smoke alarms to the city, which have successfully activated 844 times in emergencies over the years. They have also donated 30 ambulances and 9 emergency response vehicles, successfully saving citizens' lives and property. Disaster prevention starts with small actions, and we hope this engaging event will provide valuable knowledge for all participants. We warmly invite all citizens to join and participate enthusiastically.

Taipei City has won the top spot in the "2024 County and City Overall and Sustainable Competitiveness Survey" by Global Views Monthly for the fourth consecutive time, and ranked first among the six metropolitan cities in "Public Safety and Firefighting," reflecting outstanding achievements in disaster prevention education. The Taipei City Fire Department reminds the public that common causes of fires during tomb sweeping are often related to burning joss paper, weeds, setting off firecrackers, or improperly discarding cigarette butts. These actions can lead to environmental pollution and even pose a threat to public safety. Citizens are advised to avoid using open flames while tomb-sweeping to reduce the risk of fire and protect the natural environment.

Five Ways to Prevent The Fire During Tomb Sweeping

In order to prevent cemetery fires, the Taipei City Fire Department urges citizens to follow five "no fire" methods during tomb sweeping and ensure a safe and worry-free experience:

Do not burn weeds: Use tools to manually clear the cemetery, and place weeds in garbage bags to avoid burning them and causing a fire.

Do not burn joss paper: Choose alternatives such as "offering merits instead of money" or "offering rice instead of money".

Do not set off fireworks: It is recommended to play electronic firecracker sounds on a smartphone, which is both safe and convenient.

Do not throw cigarette butts: Ensure cigarettes are properly extinguished and discarded safely to prevent sparks from igniting the weeds.

Do not Leave Your Trash: After tomb sweeping, take your trash with you to keep the cemetery clean and reduce the accumulation of combustible materials.

The Fire Department stated that this year, in addition to using various channels such as the official website, social media platforms, electronic billboards, community bulletin boards, and broadcasts to spread fire prevention information, they have also placed awareness posters in incense shops. This reminds citizens to take fire safety precautions while purchasing ancestral offerings. Furthermore, the department has collaborated with other city government agencies, including the Department of Environmental Protection, the Police Department, and the Taipei City Mortuary Services Office (MSO), to coordinate efforts such as clearing dry grass and shrubs from cemeteries, promoting alternative offerings like "merit in place of joss paper" and "rice in place of joss paper," centralizing the burning of joss paper, assisting with cemetery patrols, and conducting fire prevention campaigns during the Qingming Festival. These comprehensive efforts aim to enhance public awareness of disaster prevention and safeguard the safety of all citizens.

The Fire Department reminds the public to download the "Taipei City Disaster Prevention App" and the "The First Scene App" before tomb sweeping to stay updated on weather and disaster prevention information, helping to respond to various emergency situations. Additionally, if burning paper offerings or weeds accidentally causes a fire, leading to air pollution or casualties, relevant authorities will enforce penalties according to the law. Taipei City has won the top spot in the "2024 County and City Overall and Sustainable Competitiveness Survey" by the Far Eastern Magazine for the fourth consecutive time, and ranked first among the six metropolitan cities in "Public Safety and Firefighting." Therefore, the public is urged to prioritize safety while paying respects to ancestors, and to continue working together to protect the precious natural environment and the safety of their families
</Column_6><Column_7 name="Files">[]</Column_7><Column_8 name="Links">[]</Column_8><Column_9 name="Pictures">[]</Column_9><Column_10 name="Movies">[]</Column_10><Column_11 name="Publish Department">Taipei City Fire Department</Column_11></Data><Data><Column_0 name="DataSN">9355943</Column_0><Column_1 name="ArticleType">0</Column_1><Column_2 name="FileName"></Column_2><Column_3 name="Link"></Column_3><Column_4 name="Source">https://english.119.gov.taipei/News_Content.aspx?n=5A5095A76D29FF0B&s=CCE641E6F82064C7</Column_4><Column_5 name="title">Taipei City Government Saves 1,736 OHCA Patients Recovered Patients Reunite with Rescuers to Celebrate New Life</Column_5><Column_6 name="Content">
To celebrate the successful resuscitation of OHCA (Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest) patients, the Taipei City Fire Department held a special event titled "30 Years of Phoenix Rebirth: Celebrating Life Together" on February 14, 2025, at 10 AM in the first-floor atrium of Taipei City Hall. The event was hosted by Mayor Chiang Wan-an, who honored firefighters, organizations, and institutions dedicated to emergency medical services. Several OHCA survivors were invited to reunite with their rescuers to express gratitude and appreciation. The event concluded with Mayor Chiang and the attendees cutting a cake to symbolize the joy of rebirth.

Mayor Chiang stated in his speech, "A comprehensive emergency medical system is a symbol of a safe and progressive city." Since taking office, the Taipei City Government has continuously promoted emergency medical policy reforms, actively improving OHCA survival rates, and enhancing the technical training of emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Since 2015, Taipei has consistently achieved over 100 OHCA recoveries annually, with recent years surpassing 150. This reflects the city's determination to become "the most life-saving city." Additionally, the Fire Department received the "Best Institution Award" from the Asian Emergency Medical Services Association in 2023 and the "2024 EMS Golden Phoenix Group Award" in 2024, highlighting its excellence in emergency medical services.

The Fire Department reviewed the history of emergency medical services in Taipei. Since 1968, Taipei firefighters began providing emergency medical care, initially with only basic first-aid knowledge and simple medical kits. Their primary task was rapid response and transport of patients to hospitals. In 1999, under the leadership of former Fire Chief Chang Po-ching, the nation's first specialized EMS team, "Golden Phoenix," was established, marking a significant milestone in EMS reform. This initiative introduced dual-track EMS, online medical guidance, the deployment of AEDs, and collaborations with major hospitals like NTU Hospital, improving Taipei's pre-hospital emergency care to international standards.

Today, all Taipei ambulances are equipped with state-of-the-art medical devices, including AEDs, automated CPR machines, oxygen delivery systems, and emergency medications. The Fire Department also focuses on soft skills training in areas like team resource management and communication. In recent years, the department has embraced digital transformation, introducing a Critical Care Coordination System, 5G ambulance telemedicine, and AI-powered ECG analysis to ensure Taipei remains at the forefront of global emergency medical services.

During the event, three OHCA survivors attended to express their gratitude by presenting flowers to their rescuers, creating an emotional and heartfelt moment. Many survivors shared how the prompt intervention of firefighters and medical teams gave them a second chance at life, allowing them to reunite with their families.

To conclude, Mayor Chiang, Fire Department personnel, survivors, and their families cut a celebratory cake, symbolizing the continuation of life and the joy of rebirth. Mayor Chiang emphasized that these success stories are not only a testament to the efforts of the Fire Department, the Department of Health, and emergency hospitals but also serve as an inspiration for all emergency responders to further refine their skills. Going forward, Taipei City will continue to enhance emergency services by leveraging big data and AI technology to optimize its EMS system, making Taipei a safer and more livable city.
</Column_6><Column_7 name="Files">[]</Column_7><Column_8 name="Links">[]</Column_8><Column_9 name="Pictures">[]</Column_9><Column_10 name="Movies">[]</Column_10><Column_11 name="Publish Department">Taipei City Fire Department</Column_11></Data><Data><Column_0 name="DataSN">9352066</Column_0><Column_1 name="ArticleType">0</Column_1><Column_2 name="FileName"></Column_2><Column_3 name="Link"></Column_3><Column_4 name="Source">https://english.119.gov.taipei/News_Content.aspx?n=5A5095A76D29FF0B&s=7BB9CEF9EC0647A8</Column_4><Column_5 name="title">Cold Surge Arrives! To Open Windows to Prevent CO Poisoning!</Column_5><Column_6 name="Content">
Data sets and statistics about carbon monoxide poisoning in Taipei city from Taipei City Fire Department show that there have been 4 cases occurred, resulting in 1 fatality and 8 injuries. The main causes were that gas water heaters installed in the confined balcony without proper ventilation and failure to open windows, leading to CO buildup due to incomplete combustion of carbon-containing fuels. According to Central Weather Administration forecasts that a strong continental cold air mass will affect this Friday (2/7), bring temperature below 10℃ in northern areas. Remember to keep warm and ensure proper ventilation—never close windows while using a gas water heater during the cold surge!

The Taipei City Fire Department disseminates that the water heater should be installed outdoors or equipped with the function of forced exhaust (FE) and installed by licensed professionals to comply with safety regulations. It is also important to choose models certified with CNS and TGAS. Moreover, avoid stacking miscellaneous items or hanging laundry around the water heater. Last but not the least, always ensure proper ventilation by keeping windows and doors open while using the water heater.

If you or people around you experience symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, rapid breathing, or weakness while indoors, be aware that it could be CO poisoning. Immediately turn off gas appliances, open windows for ventilation, and, if necessary, leave the house to get fresh air, and Call 119 for medical assistance.

Finally, Taipei City Fire Department offers a subsidy program to encourage the relocation or replacement of gas water heaters to prevent CO poisoning, especially older models that may pose safety risks. Resource limits for the eligibility, households meeting the requirements can receive a subsidy starting at NT$3,000. For detailed information and assistance, residents can visit Taipei City Fire Department official website.
</Column_6><Column_7 name="Files">[]</Column_7><Column_8 name="Links">[]</Column_8><Column_9 name="Pictures">[]</Column_9><Column_10 name="Movies">[]</Column_10><Column_11 name="Publish Department">Taipei City Fire Department</Column_11></Data><Data><Column_0 name="DataSN">9347704</Column_0><Column_1 name="ArticleType">0</Column_1><Column_2 name="FileName"></Column_2><Column_3 name="Link"></Column_3><Column_4 name="Source">https://english.119.gov.taipei/News_Content.aspx?n=5A5095A76D29FF0B&s=DA3836AEB5DCBD74</Column_4><Column_5 name="title">Gather Around for a Warm Reunion Don't Overlook Gas Safety!</Column_5><Column_6 name="Content">
To maintain public safety in vendor gathering areas, the Taipei City Fire Department continues to collaborate with the city’s Market Administration Office to conduct regular inspections of gas usage management. However, as firecrackers and fireworks contain gunpowder, improper handling can easily lead to fires caused by sparks coming into contact with flammable materials. There have also been incidents of children getting injured while playing with firecrackers. Moreover, the process generates noise, air pollution, and harmful gases that may pose risks to human health.

The Taipei City Fire Department urges the public to consider using electronic firecracker sound effects as a safer and more environmentally friendly alternative. This not only enhances the festive atmosphere but also ensures the safety of those around and contributes to carbon reduction efforts.

The Taipei City Fire Department emphasizes that when using firecrackers or fireworks, it is essential to purchase certified products and strictly follow the instructions on the packaging, including details on the "type of firework," "operating instructions," and "safety distance." Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in fines ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$150,000. For instance, aerial fireworks such as skyrockets require a safety distance of at least 10 meters, while ascending fireworks must maintain a minimum distance of 20 meters.

Furthermore, the use of firecrackers and fireworks is strictly prohibited in areas specified by the " Fireworks Management Act " and the "Taipei City Firecracker and Firework Use Control Guidelines." Restricted locations include gas stations, LPG stores, highways, mass transit systems, elevated roads, historical sites, hospitals, nursing homes, postpartum care centers, and elderly care facilities. Violators may face fines ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$300,000.

To ensure a safe year and to minimize the risks associated with firecracker use, The Taipei City Fire Department reminds the public to observe the following safety guidelines:

• Only purchase fireworks with clear labeling and certification.

• Follow the instructions on the label carefully. For aerial and flying-type fireworks, ensure they are securely anchored and fired vertically into the air.

• Set off fireworks in open spaces and avoid leaning over the fireworks or observing closely during ignition.

• Do not aim fireworks at people, buildings, or flammable materials.

• Avoid linking or stacking multiple fireworks together for simultaneous ignition.

• Children under 12 years old should only set off fireworks under the supervision of a parent or guardian.

Additionally, to ensure the safety of children setting off fireworks, Taipei City Fire Department reminds parents that those with children under 12 years old will be fined up to NT$15,000 if the child is not accompanied by an adult. Fireworks such as aerial, flying, and firecrackers are prohibited for children to set off. Vendors who sell these types of fireworks to children will face fines ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$150,000.

In conclusion, Taipei City Fire Department urges all citizens to refrain from setting off fireworks randomly to maintain public safety and peace during the New Year festivities in Taipei. Consider using firecracker sound effects to safely celebrate (you can scan the festive sound effect card to download, or visit Taipei City Fire Department website [https://reurl.cc/M6MK14] or the Ministry of the Interior Fire Agency website [https://reurl.cc/A42YaQ] for downloads). However, cooking with stovetop flames can quickly become dangerous if proper precautions aren’t taken. Taipei City Fire Department urges everyone to make kitchen safety a priority by following the "Turn Off the Stove Before Leaving" rule and installing residential fire alarms to reduce the risk of fires at home.

Statistics from the Fire Department over the past six years (December-February every year) the most cause of fires has been stove cooking, and the most common cause of fires caused by stove cooking is "people forget to cook at home or go out."indicate that many fire-related fatalities stemming from stovetop cooking were caused by unattended flames or flammable materials placed too close to heat sources. Grease fires were the leading cause of injuries. An analysis of these incidents reveals that delays in evacuation and improper fire suppression methods often played a significant role in the resulting casualties.

The Fire Department emphasizes the importance of adopting safe cooking practices, particularly the rule to "Turn Off the Stove Before Leaving." In the event of a grease fire, the gas supply should be turned off immediately, and the flames should be smothered with a lid. Under no circumstances should water be used to extinguish a grease fire, as it may exacerbate the situation. Furthermore, the year-end cleaning season is an opportune time to address grease buildup in range hoods and exhaust ducts, especially in food service establishments where grease accumulates more rapidly. Cleaning schedules should be adjusted based on usage frequency.

To enhance fire prevention, residents are urged to install residential fire alarms that detect smoke or high temperatures and issue timely alerts. Flammable items should be kept at a safe distance from stovetops, and households are encouraged to use appliances equipped with flame failure devices or temperature sensors. These safety features automatically shut off the gas supply if the flame is extinguished or the temperature becomes dangerously high.

In the event of a fire, the Fire Department strongly underscores the importance of prioritizing evacuation over attempting to retrieve belongings or pets, as personal safety must always come first. By following these precautions, we can work together to create a safer environment.
</Column_6><Column_7 name="Files">[]</Column_7><Column_8 name="Links">[]</Column_8><Column_9 name="Pictures">[]</Column_9><Column_10 name="Movies">[]</Column_10><Column_11 name="Publish Department">Taipei City Fire Department</Column_11></Data><Data><Column_0 name="DataSN">9311830</Column_0><Column_1 name="ArticleType">0</Column_1><Column_2 name="FileName"></Column_2><Column_3 name="Link"></Column_3><Column_4 name="Source">https://english.119.gov.taipei/News_Content.aspx?n=5A5095A76D29FF0B&s=2EE32AC3F9E34C84</Column_4><Column_5 name="title">The 2025 Disaster Prevention Calendar Launch</Column_5><Column_6 name="Content">
At 10 a.m. today, the Taipei City Fire Department held a launch event for the ''Together for the Future: Safe TAIPEI, Peaceful TAIPEI'' disaster preparedness calendar in the first-floor atrium of Taipei City Hall. It became the first heavy urban search and rescue team in Taiwan. Since its establishment, the team has participated in numerous domestic and international disaster rescue operations, accumulating a wealth of search and rescue experience and demonstrating both expertise and capacity. Additionally, the Taipei City Urban Search and Rescue Team continues to fulfill its role in the international humanitarian aid rotation task assigned by the National Fire Agency Special Search and Rescue Team, making it one of Taiwan's critical forces in international disaster search and rescue.

In July 2024, Taipei City will be the first in line for international humanitarian aid rotation. To enhance the mobilization readiness of the Taipei City Urban Search and Rescue Team and strengthen the efficiency of horizontal communication with external units, ensuring swift deployment upon receiving domestic or international disaster alerts, a mobilization test was conducted focusing on the heavy urban search and rescue team's capabilities. The test also invited the National Fire Agency Special Search and Rescue Team and other cities in the international humanitarian aid rotation for guidance and exchange.

Today's mobilization test was held at the Minquan Station of the Third District headquarter of the Taipei City Fire Department. The drill included post-disaster reporting, horizontal communication with external units, personnel assembly, reporting procedures during assembly, personal equipment inspection, health checks, disaster information collection, and briefings. The drill mobilized 68 personnel and 3 search and rescue dogs from Taipei City Fire Departments, Taipei City Volunteer Search and Eescue Team, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Taipei City Hospital, Taipei Structural Engineers Association, and the Taiwan Detection Dog Association.

In the future, the Taipei City Urban Search and Rescue Team will continue to enhance its capabilities and maintain close cooperation with external professional units. The primary causes in previous cases were overheating, overcharging, or using electrical appliances without safety labels. Therefore, implementing effective safety measures against lithium battery fires is essential to prevent future accidents.

In recent years, lithium batteries have become the mainstream power storage devices, widely used in mobile devices, consumer electronics, and electric vehicles due to their small size, high energy density, and low self-discharge rate. However, lithium's high chemical reactivity poses high risks. According to statistics from the Fire Department, there have been a total of 139 lithium battery fires in the past five years. Among these incidents, 82 cases (59%) occurred inside buildings, with power banks being the most frequent appliance at 27 cases. Additionally, 36 lithium battery fires (26.5%) involved electric vehicles, with electric bicycles accounted for 12 cases.

The Fire Department notes that lithium battery incidents typically arise from external factors like overcharging, impact, and structural damage, or internal issues such as electrolyte decomposition and internal pressure build-up. They have recently initiated the "FSI Fire Scene Investigation Classroom - Lesson Four: Lithium Battery Burning Reproduction Experiment," which simulates lithium battery overcharging to demonstrate early warning signs: swelling, heating, and smoking. Upon noticing these signs, users should cease using the battery, submerge it in water, and, once deemed safe, hand it over to recycling authorities for recycling.

To prevent lithium battery fires, the Fire Department emphasizes the importance of avoiding prolonged charging and using certified products. They recommend following the safety measures:

1. Choose products with the "Commodity Safety Mark" issued by the Bureau of Standards, Metrology, and Inspection, Ministry of Economic Affairs: Since May 2014, mandatory inspections by the Bureau of Standards, Metrology, and Inspection include various categories of 3C secondary lithium batteries and appliances. Compliance checks are crucial during purchases, especially for electric bicycles and Mini electric two-wheel vehicles as per the Ministry of Transportation and Communications' regulations.

2. Read the instruction manual carefully before use and follow its instructions: Handle batteries as per the product manual.

3. Avoid charging in direct sunlight, high temperatures, or near flammable materials: Store batteries in cool, dry places away from heat and moisture. Charge them in ventilated areas away from flammable materials, between 0 to 45°C.

4. Remove the power source promptly after charging to avoid overcharging, and avoid charging while sleeping: Avoid fully depleting batteries during use, as over-discharging can cause the negative electrode plates to collapse, reducing capacity and increasing impedance. This not only shortens the battery life irreversibly but also increases safety risks.

5.
