Taipei City Fire Department held the "2024 National Disaster Prevention Day Event" at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, Taipei City, from 13:30 to 16:30 on September 21th. The event brought together various sectors, including industry, government, education, NPO, and national defense, to set up diverse disaster preparedness booths. Through this event, the public can learn essential disaster prevention and response knowledge and skills, raising awareness of disaster preparedness among citizens and all sectors of society.
To demonstrate Taipei City’s strong emphasis and support for disaster preparedness, Mayor Chiang Wan-an attended the event and presented certificates of appreciation to the Disaster Coordination Centers from each administrative district. In response to the needs of large-scale disasters, Taipei City has established Disaster Coordination Centers in collaboration with district offices and civil organizations. These centers are designed to integrate manpower and resources during disasters, effectively filling the gaps in public sector response during major emergencies. Additionally, distinguished international guests attending the "16th CityNet disaster cluster seminar" in 2024, have been invited to join this event, showcasing Taipei City's achievements in disaster prevention and response, and demonstrating the city's disaster management capabilities to the world.
This event features a special collaboration with the Eden Social Welfare Foundation to set up an accessible disaster preparedness experience area. This section allows participants to experience the daily challenges faced by individuals with special needs during disasters and provides guidance on how to use personal items to respond to emergencies. Additionally, the event includes the Tomica Disaster World Experience Zone and a meet-and-greet with Robocar Poli, where participants could create their own DIY fire trucks, explore the Tomica Disaster World, and take photos with Robocar Poli.
Furthermore, Two-Star resilient communities such as Zhongshun Vil, Baode Vil, and Jiangshan Vil are invited to participate. These communities showcased their unique characteristics and disaster prevention achievements, allowing the public to understand the efforts of each community in Taipei City regarding disaster prevention. This event also provides an opportunity for booths to interact, share experiences, and exchange disaster prevention knowledge.
The Fire Department stated that strengthening citizens' awareness of self-help and mutual assistance during emergencies, thereby deepening their disaster prevention awareness, is our ongoing goal in promoting disaster education, ensuring that Taipei City can demonstrate exceptional resilience and response capabilities when facing various disasters, making it an inclusive, sustainable, and safe city to live in.
