The city rescue team’s solid drills defied adverse weather and debris

In line with the 2015 UN INSARAG Guideline, Taipei City Rescue Team has conducted 3 drills during Dec.14-Dec.19 to enhance the response efficiency and rescue ability, and also with the aim of protecting the lives and properties of our citizens.
According to the city fire department, the brave rescue team completed the drills under cold and rainy weather due to recent cold front. They simulated after-quake rescue for confined victims in a tilted building. The commander adopted HAP standard to direct search and rescue operation; the team used rescue dogs and technical devices to locate the victims and removed the obstacles with destruction equipment. With the space limitation, the team had to support the structure and ensured both the victims and their own safety. Various rescue skills had been practiced in this intensive and challenging training.
The city fire department indicates that the emphasis of the drills was to correspond with the 2015 INSARAG guideline which is endorsed by the UN. With this opportunity, the rescue team was able to adapt themselves to the international humanitarian rescue standards and terminologies, and had met the satisfactory requirements for urban rescue.
