Taipei City Fire Department

The opening ceremony of the 2023 Taipei City Fire Camp was held by Taipei City Fire Department at Fire Safety Museum (No. 376, Sec. 2, Chenggong Rd., Neihu Dist., Taipei City) on Wednesday, July 5^th at 9:30 am. The firefighters and Hello Kitty kicked it off. Through lively dancing, a happy prelude was launched for the Fire Camp.

Fire Department states that the Fire Camp was held for elementary school students in grades 1 to 4 during summer vacation to strengthen their disaster prevention knowledge and skills. This year, the Fire Camp started from July 4^th to 21^st (every Tuesday to Friday) and always be one of the popular activities in Taipei City every year during the summer vacation. Moreover, parents could accompany their children in learning every Friday and bring disaster prevention skills home. Still, parents and children could work together to create a safe home.

The opening ceremony was especially cooperating again with “SANRIO TAIWAN CO., LTD.”. In addition to dancing with Hello Kitty, the company also worked with firefighters to teach children how to prepare an emergency kit. By designing an emergency kit, children could stay calm and know how to react when disasters come. And this time, children could interact with Hello Kitty, imprinting disaster prevention knowledge in their minds. Besides, it will hold a fire truck lighting ceremony as the symbol of starting the series of learning and experiencing for the Fire Camp. Fire Department wishes all the participants can be full of knowledge in this event. After the opening ceremony, the "Little Firefighters" and "Little Fire Heroes" activities were launched.

According to Fire Department, the content for the Fire Camp includes fire prevention, earthquake response and drowning prevention knowledge. Besides, through simulated scenarios such as smoke-filled fire scenes, severe shaking during earthquakes, and drowning, children can realize how firefighters save people in challenging circumstances and how brave they are. Through all kinds of disaster experiences, children will learn that prevention is better than rescue and being a man who can save others.

The children participating in this activity can get a certificate of completion after passing the test of various disaster prevention knowledge and experience activities. Each of them is the seed of disaster prevention and is also the most heroic "firefighter" in the family.
