Smoke Detectors Saved 190 Households from Fire Incidents and the Installation Rate Is 100% in the Zhongshan District

In recent years, the Taipei City Fire Department has vigorously promoted the use of smoke detectors. It has also continuously subsidized smoke detector installation for residents of old buildings with lack of fire-safety equipments and of areas with complicated terrain for fire rescue, as well as low-income households, elderly people who live alone, and other disadvantaged groups. These smoke detectors have been functioning effectively, as shown by statistics that 190 households have successfully evacuated from fire incidents since the promotion. In Taipei City, out of approximately 400,000 households living in buildings of five levels or lower, 70 percent has already installed smoke detectors. The Zhongshan District has the highest installation rate of 100 percent as of July 31st, 2018.

According to District Chief Wang Zhengxiong, the 35,756 households to be subsidized with smoke detector installation in the Zhongshan District have all been accommodated under the joint efforts of fire personnel, village chiefs and fire prevention promotion team. Credits also belong to the Wenchang Temple and other enthusiastic charitable organizations, companies and individuals for donating the smoke detectors. The District Chief pointed out that when fire personnel attempted to promote the use of smoke detectors during door-to-door approach, they were not often greeted or even treated as scam. However, with knowing the fact that the smoke detectors donated by the Wenchang Temple were blessed by the Wenchang Dijun, the awareness of smoke detector installation have begun to raised significantly from neighborhood to neighborhood.

Have you installed a smoke detector at your home? Disaster prevention is imminent! Smoke detectors automatically go off to alert households as soon as any abnormal smoke is detected. They provide 24/7 protection and prevent fire disaster when residents are asleep. Earlier in July 2018, a fire incident broke out at night-time as cookfire was not shut off when the user left his premise. Fortunately, casualty was avoided as the neighbors were alerted by the smoke detector and successfully evacuated preemptively. Although only one smoke detector is subsidized by the government for each household, the Fire Department advises the public to install a fire detector in every room of a household to ensure safety. Residents who are qualified for the subsidy but have not yet installed any smoke detectors should find out more information by visiting any fire station nearby. Otherwise they may make the purchase at Costco, B&Q, PX Mart or other retail store to ensure home security.
