Rice dumpling leaves scent the air, celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival! Emergency skills are most "important" !

The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated on May 5th. During the festival, family reunions will enjoy delicious rice dumplings. However, glutinous rice is sticky, which often causes the elderly or children to choke. At this time, patients may hold their throats with their hands and voiceless. They may have difficulty breathing or even die in severe cases. If the family members around you can give first aid immediately, it will be able to save lives and avoid tragedies.

The Taipei City Fire Department appeals to encourage the patient to cough and breathe hard when conscious and slightly choked. Applying the "Heimlich Maneuver" if the person is unable to speak or breathe. Position yourself behind the person, and use one hand to make a fist the thumb and the forefinger are toward the patient's abdomen) and put it on the midline of the upper abdomen, slightly higher than the navel, grasp the fist with another hand, and quickly push it inward and upward. If the extraneous matter cannot be removed and the patient becomes unconscious, quickly and carefully lay the person, back against the ground. Then check for the extraneous matter that can be removed from the mouth, and spontaneously detect whether the patient has a heartbeat and breath; If he/she is not breathing or has Cardiac arrest, perform CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) immediately and call 119 for help.

Taipei City Fire Department has been promoting CPR and AED courses to the public. The 12 administrative districts in Taipei offer classes. The class will open as long as more than one person applies, including one. In addition, communities, schools, or companies with more than 20 people can apply for on-site CPR plus AED courses offered by the Department. By finishing all the programs, each participant will get a certificate.
