According to the statistics of Taipei City in recent years, most carbon monoxide poisoning cases are caused by improper installation of gas water heaters, combined with closed doors and windows due to low temperatures and poor ventilation in the environment.Taipei City Fire Department reminds citizens that when using gas equipment (such as gas water heaters and gas stoves) at home, it is vita to open windows and ensure good ventilation to prevent incomplete combustion or carbon monoxide poisoning occurring under poor ventilation.If citizens feel light-headed, vomiting and weak in limbs, be extra careful as these are the symptoms of carbon monoxide. In that case, stop using the water heater immediately and open windows for ventilation. If citizens feel extremely unwel, call 119 immediately for safety.
In order to enhance home safety in Taipei City, Taipei City Fire Department offers subsidized gas water heaters replacement. After the subsidy recipients have submitted their applications, Taipei City Fire Department will send its staff to visit the premises. If it is confirmed that the gas water heaters are not installed in the right place or are not of the correct type, applicants will be eligible for the subsidy.
