First Aid with AED

What to do next if you find someone lying on the ground
1. Talk to and pat the victim on the shoulder.
2. If the victim is NOT conscious, yell for help.
Ask people nearby to dial 119 and get the AED.
3. Open the airway. Check for breathing.
Open the airway.
See, within ten seconds, if the victim has normal breathing.
4. If NO breathing, give rescue breathing TWICE.
Give a breath for a second until the chest rises slightly.
Give another in the same way.
5. Give chest compression soon after breathing.
Ratio: 30 (compressions) : 2 (breaths)
Repeat compression and breathing.
6. Now you have the AED.
Some machines turn on automatically when their lids are opened.
7. Place the pads on the chest.
Pictures on the pads show where to put the pads on the chest.
Have the chest unwet. Put the pads tightly.
8. Let the AED see if the victim needs electric shocks.
Don’t touch the victim while the machine reads the victim’s heartbeat.
9. Press the “shock button”.
Keep a crowd back.
Press the flashing button.
Follow what the AED tells.
Repeat the CPR and AED steps until:
*The EMS staff arrives.
*The victim moves and/or responds (ex. “refusal”), or
*The victim resumes normal breathing.
