Fire ESG Concept is First Introduced in the Selection of “2023 Taipei City Excellent Self-Management Venue for Fire Safety”

In order to enhance the fire safety quality of public spaces and promote the fire prevention responsibility of business operators in Taipei City, the Taipei City Fire Department actively promotes the “Excellent Self-Management Venue for Fire Safety” selection initiative. The selection criteria include nine major aspects such as fire management, equipment maintenance reporting, fire and electricity usage management, and concrete achievements in improving public safety. Venues that pass the selection process will be awarded the "Excellent Self-Management Venue for Fire Safety" emblem, and the ceremony is expected to be held on January 20, 2024.

The Fire Department stated that our city hosts numerous large-scale consuming and recreational venues, and those able to stand out after rigorous evaluation represent places with comprehensive fire safety management. ShinKong Mitsukoshi Nanxi Department Store participated in this selection and, for the first time, introduced the Fire ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) concept. They compiled a Fire Sustainability Report that addresses fire and disaster prevention aspects within the realms of environmental protection, corporate governance, and social responsibility.

The report discloses various implementation measures, including the establishment of a fire safety system, improvement of fire safety equipment hardware, fire emergency response education and training, and the establishment of accident data. By integrating fire safety into the concept of sustainable development, the venue aims to fulfill its responsibility for disaster prevention and management, ensuring both workplace safety for employees and a secure environment for the public.

Fire is a significant operational risk in businesses, with the carbon emissions resulting from a fire often surpassing the efforts put into carbon reduction. Additionally, it can adversely impact a company's reputation. Implementing a robust Fire ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) strategy is crucial for businesses to comprehensively understand and control their fire risk performance. It also demonstrates a commitment to sustainable development.

The Fire Department earnestly encourages all major enterprises and business establishments in the city to join in promoting Fire ESG disclosure. This collective effort aims to minimize the environmental, social, and economic impact of fires, working together towards the core goal of sustainable development.
