No Speed Limit Change
Last week’s deadly accident and fire in Hsuehshan Tunnel started when a driver suffered a blown tire. The incident led to calls for the speed limit in the tunnel to be reduced.
The National Freeway Bureau invited experts to discuss the issue. After, it decided to maintain the speed limit at 90 kilometers per hour. Reasons it gave included that the 90-kilometer-per-hour limit is what people want. It also said the accident was not directly related to the speed limit inside the tunnel.
