Taipei City Fire Department

Taipei Fire Department, representing Taipei City, participated in the 15th CityNet Disaster Cluster Seminar held in Makati City, Philippines on June 7th and 8th, 2023. The delegation shared Taipei City's achievements in data governance with international cities and took on the responsibility of hosting the 16th CityNet Disaster Cluster Seminar next year.

CityNet is an international organization that aims to create friendly cities and promote mutual cooperation, eco-sustainability, policy participation and global connectivity among cities in the Asia-Pacific region. It also sets the vision of achieving SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), SFDRR (Sendai Framework for Disaster Reduction) and UNFCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change). Currently, CityNet has 102 member cities worldwide.

Taipei City was invited to join the CityNet Disaster Cluster in 2015 and previously hosted the 9th Disaster Cluster Seminar in 2016. By attending these annual seminars, Taipei City actively engages in discussions and exchanges on disaster prevention strategies with member cities.

The 15th CityNet Disaster Cluster Seminar was organized by Makati City, Philippines, under the theme "RETHINK RESILIENCE, RESILIENCE IN ACTION." The event was inaugurated by Makati City Mayor Hon Abigail Binay. Participating cities included Matsuyama City (Japan), Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (Thailand), Colombo Municipal Council (Sri Lanka), Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City (Nepal), and other member cities. Various organizations, such as the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Asian Institute of Management, National Society for Earthquake Technology (Nepal), and Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation, were also present.

The seminar facilitated discussions on topics such as understanding systemic risks, risk communication, and innovative construction of resilient cities. This provided an opportunity for member cities to reevaluate their disaster prevention policies, ensuring their continued focus on becoming resilient cities amid global crises such as war threats, climate change, and post-pandemic recovery.

Under the theme "An All-Hazard Risk Analysis Framework to Enhance Urban Disaster Resilience," Taipei City shared its experiences and achievements in data governance during the seminar, receiving positive feedback from member cities. At the conclusion of the seminar, Deputy Commissioner Wang Jing Ting represented Taipei City in accepting the responsibility of hosting the 16th CityNet Disaster Cluster Seminar next year. She expressed confidence in improving the planning and preparation for the event by leveraging the collaborative efforts, knowledge sharing, and innovative technologies within Taipei City's government departments. She extended a sincere invitation to all member cities to actively participate, fostering smoother communication between cities and jointly striving towards the goal of becoming resilient cities.
