Video Emergency Reporting Provides Immediate Rescue and Protection to the Public

The Emergency Dispatch Center of the Taipei City Fire Department received an emergency fire report from the public via the Video 119 App on May 21st, 2018 at 12:03 PM. The fire broke out at the Ankang and Donghu intersection in Neihu District due to a gas leak. Upon receiving real-time images and videos of the fire scene, the fire unit was immediately made aware of the fierceness of the fire and its close proximity to the surrounding residential and commercial areas. As a result reinforcements of 19 fire-fighting trucks, 4 ambulances and 59 firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene. The fire was put out at 12:40 PM.

In this fire incident via the Video 119 App, the fire unit had grasped accurate information of the location of the fire and real-time circumstances of the scene, which altogether led to the appropriate dispatch of resources to carry out the rescue mission. Fortunately, the fire was put out quickly without serious spreading.

According to the Taipei City Fire Department, it has resolved 20 emergency cases reported via the Video 119 App since the App’s official launch on December 21st 2017. The App provided firefighters the location of the incidents and allowed the rescue mission and medical treatment to be carried out promptly. Resolved cases include hikers who got lost and injured at the Qingtiangang Grassland and near the Yonggong Road.

The Taipei City Fire Department called for the public to install the Video 119 App on their smartphones. Even in occasions where it is impossible to determine the location of incidence at the time of reporting an emergency (e.g. at mountain trails and riverside parks where obvious landmarks do not exist), real-time photos and videos of the situation and GPS coordinate can still be sent to the Emergency Dispatch Center. The fire personnel, upon receiving the information, will be able to execute the appropriate dispatch more efficiently. The public can download the Video 119 App from Google Play or Apple Store. When in need of an emergency assistance, the public can provide real-time photos and videos via the App to assist with the dispatch for disaster relief.
